LAS VEGAS – Shana Dobson beat Mariya Agapova with a second-round TKO Saturday on the main card at UFC on ESPN 15 in Las Vegas.
Take a look inside the fight with Dobson, who snapped a three-fight skid and got her first win since December 2017.
Dobson on the fight’s key moment
“We had a feeling she would come out hot. That’s what she did in her last couple fights, so we trained that, we drilled that. We were prepared for anything. If she came out fast, slow, whatever. We knew what we were going to do with that pace. We knew we were going to shut it down, and that’s what we did. My coach just told me to stay long, she was coming in hot. He told me to be patient and that’s what we did going into the second round, we weathered that first storm. I wasn’t prepared for her to gas so early, but it’s the advantage of training in altitude. We were able to capitalize and use our game after that.”
Dobson on being a massive underdog
“I’ve been doubted my whole career, and this fight I was doubted a huge amount. I didn’t know what the betting odds were until I stumbled upon them on accident when I was betting myself. I was confident. Like my coach says, ‘We’re excited, but we’re not surprised. We already knew.’ She had a lot of hype behind her coming in, and I don’t know – we have been doing this way too long. Y’all doubted me way too hard, but it’s all good. I’m glad I was able to put on a great performance for the fans and get it done tonight.”
Dobson on what she wants next
“We want to keep the momentum going. I trust my coaches. Whatever we think is best, it’s all good. I feel good. I’ve got a couple bumps and bruises, and I’ve got to attend to them. … But we stay in the gym. We stay ready.”
