Danish tournament organiser has expanded into VALORANT, partnering with Riot Games to host an Ignition Series tournament.
The BLAST VALORANT Twitch Invitational will see four teams compete for a €50,000 (£45,225.91) prize purse.
All four teams have been confirmed for the event, namely FunPlus Phoenix, G2 Esports, Ninjas in Pyjamas, and Team Liquid. The tournament will utilise a best-of-three tournament, with the final being a best-of-five series.
Nicolas Estrup, Director of Product and Experience at BLAST, spoke on the event in a release: “VALORANT has enjoyed record breaking success since its launch in June and has fast become a fan-favourite – we look forward to showing the community what BLAST can bring to the table with our industry leading production and popular fan-first approach. This tournament will be the final Ignition Series for European teams and will give viewers the platform to watch some of the world’s best VALORANT talent go head-to-head.”
The event will be broadcast exclusively on Amazon-owned live streaming platform Twitch, with “further exciting competitions and features of the live show” being announced just before the action gets underway. BLAST made a name for itself in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, only expanding into its second title with the Bounty Hunt event for Dota 2 in May.
Stuart Wettenhall, Senior Business Development Manager EMEA at Twitch, commented: “Valorant has been embraced wholeheartedly by our first-person shooter community on Twitch around the world. From the best talent through to costreaming in multiple languages, we hope to deliver a truly unique, live, interactive and engaging experience to this global fanbase.”
Esports Insider says: BLAST has demonstrated through both CS:GO and Dota 2 that it has the ability to shake up how a game is played, typically in a good way, so we’re intrigued to see what it will do with VALORANT – a title that’s still in its formative months.
