Billy Quarantillo vs. Kyle Nelson in the works for UFC event on Sept. 12

A featherweight fight is in the works for Sept. 12.

The UFC is targeting Billy Quarantillo vs. Canadian Kyle Nelson for its second September event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

Sources with knowledge of the situation informed MMA Junkie of the targeted booking Thursday but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.

Quarantillo (14-2 MMA, 2-0 UFC) would make his first walk to the cage since testing positive for COVID-19 in June. Quarantillo has won back-to-back fights in the UFC since being signed off of Dana White’s Contender Series in 2019, defeating Spike Carlyle and Jacob Kilburn.

Nelson (13-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC) would make his return to the cage for the first time since September 2019. After losing his first two UFC fights, Nelson knocked out Polo Reyes in 96 seconds at UFC on ESPN+ 17.

With the addition, the current Sept. 12 lineup includes:

  • Thiago Santos vs. Glover Teixeira
  • Andrea Lee vs. Roxanne Modafferi
  • Tyson Nam vs. Matt Schnell
  • Bruno Silva vs. Tagir Ulanbekov
  • Frank Camacho vs. Brok Weaver
